Lee TV to Air Video on Invasive Exotics

(June 12, 2006) – Lee TV, Lee County's Government Access channel, has added a new program that shows viewers Florida's continuing problem with invasive exotics and the importance of its efforts to control them. The program, produced by the University of Florida's Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), explores options for homeowners and landowners alike to control invasive species in their own communities. Host Dr. Mark Hostetler explains the importance of controlling the spread of invasive exotics, including introduced plants (Chinese Tallow Trees, Wild Taro, Water Hyacinths, and Melaleuca Trees), fire ants, and even released pets such as the large Nile monitor lizard. The video features a program being conducted in Cape Coral that city officials hope will control their growing Nile monitor lizard problem. The program will air on Mondays at 8:30 pm on ComCast Cable, channel 11 and Time Warner Cable, channel 16. Lee TV is the county's 24-hour government access channel that provides residents with information about Lee County Government as well as public safety and state-related news.
