Lee DOT Operations Workers Complete Conversational Spanish Course
May 24, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jerry Cline, Lee DOT Operations, 694-3334 in advance if possible. LEE DOT OPERATIONS WORKERS COMPLETE COURSE IN CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 24, 2006) – A group of 32 Lee County Department of Transportation employees have completed a five-week course in conversational Spanish in order to better communicate with Hispanic residents. The 32 employees are holding a lunch celebration Thursday, May 25 at noon. Interested media are invited to attend for interviews. The luncheon will be at the Operations Division facility, 5560 Zip Drive, in Billy Creek Commerce Center in Fort Myers. The conversational Spanish course was offered in conjunction with Edison Community College. The language skills will help workers and administrative support staff to communicate with the public. The Operations Division provides maintenance for fresh water drainage canals, pipes/ditches, mowing, street sweeping, bikepaths/sidewalks, landscaping, pavement patching, and bridge operations/maintenance, as well as Sanibel Bridge permits. They also take requests for action from residents. |
