APRIL PERMITS INCREASE 

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 3, 2006) ‑ Lee County's Community Development Department issued 865 single‑family home permits in the month of April; a 1.9% increase from last month, and a 9.5% increase from the 790 issued last year in April. 

The value of the 865 single‑family homes was $214.2 million.  The county also issued permits for 134 duplex units and 208 multi‑family units.   

Lee County's Community Development Department released its April statistics today.  The totals are for unincorporated Lee County, City of Bonita Springs and Town of Fort Myers Beach. Both Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach contract with the county for permitting services. 

Permitting value in Lee County experienced a record increase in 2005, surging $1.7 billion to hit the $4.7 billion mark.  In 2004, permit value was $3 billion; in 2003 it was $2 billion; in 2002 it was $1.5 billion.
