Community Agencies Assisting Those Impacted By Fires in Lehigh Acres
May 2, 2006 For Immediate Release: The following community agencies will be coordinating services to assist Lehigh Acres residents who were directly impacted with damage to their homes by the weekend fires; American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, United Way of Lee County, Builders Care, Lee County Emergency Operations Center and the Department of Human Services. The Red Cross Service Center is located at The Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 215 Richman Avenue, Lehigh Acres. Families that were directly impacted by the fire and have damage to their homes and need assistance should go to the Center for assessment. Assessment will provide the local community agencies with information to coordinate and assist in meeting the needs. The immediate community need is for long term affordable rental housing in the Lehigh Acres community for those residents impacted by the fires. We are requesting landlords who have rental properties to contact the Department of Human Services at 533-7930. This information will be provided to Lehigh Acres residents who will contact the landlord. Current information indicates that 16 homes were destroyed, 1 home with major damage and 18 with minor damage. Local community agencies will coordinate local resources to assist in meeting the needs of the Lehigh residents impacted. With Federal and State declared hurricane disasters financial aid is provided to the local agencies. This situation is confined and will totally depend on local community resources. Until the assessment of needs is determined the best way to support the Lehigh Acres residents is by making financial donations to the American Red Cross or The Salvation Army.
