Secretary of the Army Signs Plan for Beach Restoration Projects

ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE ARMY (CIVIL  WORKS) SIGNS PLAN TO START BEACH  RESTORATION PROJECTS AT GASPARILLA AND ESTERO ISLANDS

          Where:    816 BELCHER ROAD ATLANTIC BEACH, FLA.

BOCA GRANDE, Fla. – Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works John Paul Woodley, along with Lee County officials, will sign the Project Cooperation Agreement for the Gasparilla and Estero Islands beach restoration projects, Wednesday, April 26, 2:30 p.m. at the Armory Memorial Chapel, 816 Belcher Road, Boca Grande, Florida.  The ceremony is open to the public.

The agreement provides for initial restoration and periodic renourishment of Gasparilla and Estero islands. The Gasparilla Island and Estero Island projects are part of the federally authorized Lee County Shore Protection Project, which also includes Captiva Island, recently recognized by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association as one of the four Top Restored Beaches in America.
