LEE COUNTY RECEIVES NATIONAL BUDGET AWARD FOR 22nd YEAR

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 24, 2006) – For the 22nd consecutive year, Lee County Government has been awarded the "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award" from the Government Finance Officers Association.

The award recognizes entities for achievement in their annual budget document, based on four criteria that assess how well the budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

Lee County's 22 years of "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award" recognition is the second highest number of consecutive years in the state.

Lee County's annual budget (the fiscal 2005-06 budget year began October 1, 2005) can be viewed online at www.lee-county.com, then click on "Online Documents."

In order to receive the award, an entity has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.  A team of evaluators judges each submitted budget.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North America.  The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
