LeeTran Holds Open House and Public Hearing for New Facility
Apr 24, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FORT MYERS, FL - The public is invited to participate in an open house and public hearing to review and comment on the draft environmental assessment of land selected for a new public transit facility. The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council offices, 1926 Victoria Avenue, Fort Myers. The public hearing is on Thursday, April 27, with an open format from 5 to 6 p.m. and the formal hearing starting at 6 p.m., at the same location. After reviewing a number of possible sites for the new facility, a parcel located east of Evans Avenue between Moreno Avenue and Welch Street in Fort Myers has been selected as the best alternative. The proposed site would house administrative offices, a maintenance facility, a transfer facility, bus parking, employee parking, and guest parking. A Draft Environmental Assessment was conducted to evaluate the potential social, economic, environmental, and transportation benefits and impacts of the new facility. At the open house and public hearing, LeeTran representatives will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. At the formal portion of the hearing, the public may make verbal comments that will become part of the official public record. Citizens also may review the Draft Environmental Assessment and submit their comments by visiting www.rideleetran.com. Comments must be received by May 19, 2006 to become part of the public record. Once the public hearing and comment period are over, a Final Environmental Assessment will be prepared. Citizens with questions about the open house and public hearing may contact Carmen Monroy at LeeTran: cmonroy@leegov.com, or (239) 533-0332.
