March Permits Increase From February/Slight Decrease From Year Ago

MARCH PERMITS INCREASE FROM FEBRUARY/SLIGHT DECREASE FROM YEAR AGO 

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 5, 2006) ‑ Lee County's Community Development Department issued 849 single‑family home permits in the month of March; a 12.6% increase from last month, but a minor (-1.8%) decrease from the 865 issued last year in March. 

The value of the 849 single‑family homes was $233.2 million.  The county also issued permits for 154 duplex units and 834 multi‑family units.  The multi-family units are 84% higher than last month's total and a 25% increase over March last year. 

Lee County's Community Development Department released its March statistics today.  The totals are for unincorporated Lee County, City of Bonita Springs and Town of Fort Myers Beach. Both Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach contract with the county for permitting services. 

Permitting value in Lee County experienced a record increase in 2005, surging $1.7 billion to hit the $4.7 billion mark.  In 2004, permit value was $3 billion; in 2003 it was $2 billion; in 2002 it was $1.5 billion.
