Board Approves Stormwater Projects/Boca Grande Items

BOARD APPROVES STORMWATER PROJECTS/BOCA GRANDE ITEMS
 
FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 4, 2006) – The Board of Lee County Commissioners today approved the following items during its regular weekly meeting.  They are: 

Stormwater Projects – Approved $3.78 million of stormwater related capital projects countywide to effectively manage stormwater.  The largest projects ($2.4 million) is the Popash Creek Preserve hydrological restoration. 

Boca Grande – Created the Boca Grande Historic Preservation Board and established procedures and criteria for evaluating special projects and properties that are the subject of grant funding.  Also approved $50,000 to help the Boca Grande Community Planning Association Inc. get regulations drafted to implement the policies of its community plan.

Affordable Housing – Executed $4.7 million of grant awards from the State Housing Initiative Partnership Program that will allow the county to enter into agreements with affordable housing providers for the construction of 112 affordable houses. 

Debris/Vegetation Removal – Approved seven firms to help in the $1.1 million of hurricane debris and vegetation removal in the waterways and natural creeks in Lee County.  The funding is from a grant. 

Road Widening – Agreed to formally notify the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) that it will have to pursue any land acquisition(s) from the County's Conservation 20/20 Parcel 258 ("Boomer Site"), for widening U.S.41, by way of eminent domain proceedings.  The action provides an official response to FDOT's request to purchase right-of-way and a proposed drainage retention parcel from the County's Boomer Site.
