Low Income Home Energy Program
Mar 28, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Susan Oliver, Lee County Human Services Low Income Home Energy Program The Department of Human Services will begin accepting telephone calls on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. for appointments for the Low Income Home Energy Program (LIHEAP) applications. To make or ask about the availability of an appointment, call 533-7900 and listen for the prompt for utility appointments. Thereafter, calls will be accepted each Friday a.m. as long as funds remain available. Priority for appointments will be given to the elderly, disabled and households with children age 5 and under. LIHEAP home energy assistance provides for a one-time benefit on an annual basis to households who meet income and other requirements. LIHEAP funds will also be available for the crisis component which can pay up to $400.00 toward a past due bill or deposit. Please note that these funds are limited. The program does not pay monthly utility bills. Income guidelines for the program are $14,700 for a household of one, $19,800 for a household of two, $24,900 for a household of three etc. Proof of all household income is required along with an original utility bill.
