January Permitting Slows
Feb 3, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Mary Gibbs, Lee County Community Development Department JANUARY PERMITTING SLOWS FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 3, 2006) - Lee County's Community Development Department issued 632 single-family home permits in the month of January - a slow down from last year's record activity. Permits decreased 18% from last January's 746 single-family homes but increased slightly from December's 626. Lee County's Community Development Department released its January statistics today. The totals are for unincorporated Lee County, City of Bonita Springs and Town of Fort Myers Beach. Both Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach contract with the county to do their permitting services. The value of the 632 single-family home permits was $155.8 million. The county also issued permits for 132 duplex units and 232 multi-family units. Permitting value in Lee County experienced a record increase in 2005, surging $1.7 billion to hit the $4.7 billion mark. In 2004, permit value was $3 billion, in 2003 it was $2 billion; in 2002 it was $1.5 billion.
