FORT MYERS, Fla., Feb. 3, 2006 Lee County Library system's Books-By-Mail patrons will soon have an even broader selection of videos and Large Print books thanks to a generous bequest from a fellow patron.

Ms. Irmengard F. Webb was a long-time Fort Myers Lee County Public Library patron, who enjoyed videos and Large Print books. When she was no longer able to visit her library in person, Ms. Webb registered for the free Books-By-Mail service, which sends requested books and videos to patrons who are unable to visit their libraries due to a physical limitation or medical condition. The free service is also available to caretakers of adults and children who qualify for this program.

During her lifetime, Ms. Webb had been a popular and active library patron. She was responsible for spreading the word to many of her friends who became Books-By-Mail patrons themselves. Ms. Webb passed away last April 24 and left $5,295.30 to the Lee County Library System "to provide Large Print Books-By-Mail and videos."  Lee County Library System staff will be purchasing a variety of titles in these formats.

Books-by-Mail Coordinator Wendy Harrington spoke with Ms. Webb every week and remembers her fondly.

"She was a lovely woman, full of life and interested in everything. She loved ´Out of Africa'; she read the book many times and watched the movie almost every week. She enjoyed romances and American History, but was also always researching things she came across in the news." Harrington said.

In addition to purchasing videos and Large Print items with the bequest, Harrington will place book plaques commemorating Ms. Webb's gift in the videos and Large Print copies of "Out of Africa" distributed by Books-By-Mail.

"She would have loved that." Harrington said.
