FIRE RESULTS IN TOLL LANE CLOSURE ON CAPE BRIDGE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK

FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 3, 2006) A car fire Thursday night in Toll Booth Lane 1 (westbound) of the Cape Coral Bridge destroyed that lane's toll booth and replacement and repairs will take at least a week.

The lane is the "manned" lane furthest to the right of the plaza heading into Cape Coral from Fort Myers that you would use if you did not have correct change to go through one of the unmanned, automatic lanes.

A new booth will have to be delivered and installed.  Until that time, the lane is blocked off, so there will be only one attended lane in the westbound direction.

Motorists should be aware of this and expect some traffic delays, especially during high peak times.

If they can, drivers are encouraged to use the Midpoint Memorial Bridge instead to avoid backups, especially during the p.m. rush hour; or have correct change available.
