Discovery Day @ Manatee Park:  A Southwest Florida Community Celebration!

Saturday, January 28th, 2006   10:00 am- 4:00 pm

This fun filled family event is designed to give visitors the opportunity to partake in natural learning activities about the Florida Manatee, an endangered native marine mammal with which we share the coastal waters of Florida.  At Manatee Park, butterflies and native plants surround you with color and fragrance as you stroll along the boardwalk and observation walkways.   

Events of the day include:

-           Interpretive programs, Native plant habitat gardening and information and displays

-           Educational organization booth displays, activities and demonstrations

-           Naturalist lead guided walks

-           Children's ongoing activity area with hands-on discovery and crafts

-           Kayak rentals

-           Music

-           Food vendors 

Manatee Park is open year round with seasonal dates and hours: Nov Mar:  8:00am 5:00pm daily.  Visitor Center, gift shop hours:  9:00 am 4:00 pm daily.  Kayak rentals: 9:00 am 3:00pm daily.  Manatee Park is located at 10901 SR 80 in Ft. Myers.  Directions from I-75: take exit 141 East 1.3 miles.  The park is located directly across the road from the FPL power plant.  Pets are not permitted.  Event fee is $5.00 per car.  Tour and group buses $1.00 per person.
