Board Approves Health Dept. Renovations/Expedited Prisoner Transfers
Jan 10, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Pete Winton, Lee County Administration, 335-2777 BOARD APPROVES HEALTH DEPARTMENT RENOVATION/EMPLOYEES TO EXPEDITE PRISONER TRANSFERS FORT MYERS, Fla. (January 10, 2005) The Board of Lee County Commissioners, at its weekly meeting today, took the following actions: Beach Trolleys Deferred one week decision on whether to pay for additional park and ride trolleys to and from Fort Myers Beach during season. The Town Council has said it does not want to participate in the program. CR 951 Deferred to Jan. 24 a decision on whether to purchase the Stock Development (Trevi Subdivision) parcel (27.6 acres) for $22.5 million for a future alignment of County Road 951 Extension. Health Department Approved an interlocal agreement with the Lee County Health Department (State of Florida) for the renovation of the Health Department Facility on Pondella Road in North Fort Myers. Renovation costs will be split $2 million from the state and $3.075 million from Lee County. The state will be the project manager for the renovation and will take over maintenance of the building. Jail Population Approved $140,400 to fund additional court clerks necessary to implement a real-time sentencing program. The purpose of the real-time sentencing program is save the county $475,200 per year in reduced jail costs by allowing for the transfer of inmates to state prisons same-day or next business day instead of one week on average. Occupational Licensing Adopt a resolution establishing an Equity Study Commission for the purpose of recommending to the BoCC revisions to the current Lee County Occupational License Tax Ordinance. Affordable Housing Approved an additional $80,900 for Clarion Associates to expand the project scope of an affordable housing methodology study to include a methodology for impacts of residential projects on affordable housing (in addition to commercial) and evaluation of additional policy issues such as inclusionary zoning as requested by the Board at its October M&P meeting. Toll Roads Approved an additional $67,700 for URS Corporation to study the feasibility of tolls to pay for construction of County Road 951 and the Colonial-Veterans Expressway. |
