2005 Building Permits Set All Time Record

(January 5, 2006) - Permitting value in Lee County experienced a record increase in 2005, surging a whopping $1.7 billion to surpass the $4.7 billion mark, according to annual data released today by the county's Community Development Department. Single-family home permits increased 47% from 7,124 to 10,471 and multi-family home permits (apartments, duplexes and condos) rose 31% from 5,625 to 7,391. The activity is for unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers Beach. Both Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach contract with the county to do their permitting services. "Another hurricane has not slowed us down. The record pace of building activity has continued," said Mary Gibbs, county Community Development Director. "We're pleased we were able to continue to provide quality service to the building industry and residents of the community given the pace of activity."
