Reminder - Deadline for Hurricane Wilma Yard Debris Clean-Up

FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 17, 2005) - Lee County will perform a second sweep for horticultural storm debris. Residents are asked to have remaining branches, tree limbs, bushes, cut tree trunks, etc. at the curb on the below listed date.

1. Sunday, November 20, 2005 - Last call for storm debris for North
part of County as follows:
Pine Island, North Fort Myers to Alva, East Fort Myers, and Lehigh Acres.  Residents in these areas are asked to have their horticultural debris resulting from Hurricane Wilma at the curb on or before Sunday, the 20th of November.

2. Sunday, November 27, 2005 - Last call for storm debris for South
part of County as follows:
Final sweep of storm debris begins for areas south of the Fort Myers City limits, including the City of Bonita Springs.  Residents in these areas are asked to have their horticultural debris resulting from Hurricane Wilma at the curb on or before Sunday the 27th of November.

After the above dates, non compliant vegetative material placed at the curb will be tagged and must be brought into compliance according to Lee County's Solid Waste Ordinance before it can be collected. This means, all tree limbs and branches must either be bundled or containerized with each unit being 50 lbs or less (bag, bundle, container). Palm fronds (50 lbs or less) may be placed loose at the curb. Branches and tree limbs must be less than 6 ft in length. The franchised garbage collection companies will collect the vegetative material on the regular scheduled days as long as it is in compliance. However, scheduled routes may not always get finished by the end of the day due to the large volume of material placed at the curb. The franchised hauling contractors strive to make up these shortfalls by the weeks end.

The Solid Waste Division thanks the residents of Lee County for their efforts and assistance.  Any questions may be directed to the Solid Waste Division at 338-3302.
