Significant Actions Taken at Today's County Commission Meeting

For the media's benefit, below are significant actions taken at today's Board of County Commissioners meeting:

Chico's International Headquarters * Moved to a second and final public hearing (Nov. 15, 9:30 a.m.), a development agreement between Lee County and the owners and developers of the Alico Interchange Park DRI that will govern the mitigation of transportation impacts of the DRI.  The action will pave the way for Chico's to locate its 750,000-square-foot international headquarters to the park, which is located south of Alico Road and west of Three Oaks Parkway.

Beach Sewer Plant * Awarded a $6.8 million contract to Wharton-Smith Inc. for upgrades to the Fort Myers Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The project provides installation of deep bed sand filters and associated structures, electrical building, electrical power systems and control equipment.

20/20 Parcel * Authorized the purchase of a 28-acre parcel east of Burnt Store Road at the intersection of James Walter Lane for the Conservation 20/20 Program.  Purchase Price: $882,000.

Water Issues * Requested a special workshop of the Board of County Commissioners be scheduled and advertised to discuss water management/water quality issues related to South Florida Water Management District drawdowns of Lake Okeechobee and its impact on the Caloosahatchee River and Estuaries.  The workshop will include input from municipalities and local representatives on SFWMD advisory boards.  The county is looking to schedule the workshop within the next 10 days.

Water Quality Monitoring * Authorized the establishment of a new Natural Resources Operations Manager position to provide an additional staff member to insure Lee County is an integral part of the planning and implementation of various issues and initiatives critical to water quality and water resource concerns via policies promulgated by various federal, state, and local agencies.

Landscaping * Approved an $83,300 contract with Vanasse & Daylor to provide landscape architectural services for the Landscape and Irrigation Project * From U.S. 41 from City of Fort Myers Southern Boundary to College Parkway.
