Update of Solid Waste & Recycling Collection
Oct 31, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 31, 2005) - Household collection for garbage, recycling, and regular yard trash is all on schedule. Yard trash that is bagged or in garbage cans will be picked up on regular yard trash collection days. The County began picking up large piles of storm vegetation debris in North Fort Myers last Friday. Additional work crews also began this service on Pine Island and East Fort Myers (Tice and S.R.80 corridor) last Saturday. Vegetative storm debris collection will begin in Lehigh Acres and the Iona area later this week. Collection of storm debris will commence in Fort Myers Beach later this week and in Bonita Springs next week. Other areas of the County will be scheduled as more collection crews are provided by the County's contractor. The collection of storm debris on Captiva will follow the same schedule as the City of Sanibel. Storm debris collections in North Fort Myers and East Fort Myers are proceeding from West to East. Residents in these areas are advised to set out all storm debris material no later than Sunday, November 6th, 2005. After that date vegetation must be in compliance with the County's Solid Waste Ordinance - that is, tied, containerized, less than 6 ft. long and no more than 50 lbs. per bundle. The County will provide a drop off site for County residents' vegetative material only beginning Wednesday, November 2nd, at the South end of A&W Bulb Road. Landscapers and other commercial entities are not permitted to use this site.
