LeeTran Helps Residents Overcome Mobility Challenges at 'Free Wheelin' Day'

FORT MYERS, FL - Residents who use mobility devices are invited to a free event that will help them travel around the county more easily.

The 3rd annual "Free Wheelin' Day" will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Transfer Center in Fort Myers.

Those with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs and scooters, may travel free on LeeTran buses that day, along with a caregiver. Once at the transfer center, LeeTran staff will demonstrate the "kneeling buses" and the wheelchair lifts, which make the fleet handicapped-accessible. They can practice as often as necessary to become comfortable using public transportation.

Local businesses will be on hand to perform minor repairs and tune-ups to the mobility devices, at no charge. There will be refreshments and prize drawings, with the grand prize being a 20" TV/DVD.

The Downtown Transfer Center is located at 2250 Peck Street, between the public library and the Fort Myers Police Department. For information, call 533-8726 (LEE-TRAN).
