County Announces Upcoming Hurricane Seminars

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 10, 2005) - Lee County Emergency Management will be holding multiple hurricane seminars in the coming months to answer residents' questions about preparing for the 2005 hurricane season, which begins June 1. All of the seminars are FREE and reservations are not required. See the end of this release for the current schedule. Additional seminars will be added through the season. Visit the Lee County Emergency Management website at www.leeeoc.com for a current schedule. The presentations last one to one-and-a-half hours and usually include a representative of Lee County Emergency Management and a TV meteorologist. Other presenters may include representatives from the Red Cross, Department of Insurance, or local construction experts. Information presented includes: Emergency Management provides a copy of the All Hazards Guide to attendees, which includes actions to be taken before, during and after a hurricane. Also discussed: survival kit contents, evacuation orders and routes, storm surge zones, where you should seek shelter during the storm, and re-entry precautions when returning to your home. The Meteorologist provides weather related information on how a hurricane forms, where and when they are most likely to form, dangers associated with the different categories of hurricanes, and other technical weather information. Other presenters add information based on their area of expertise. A question/answer session normally follows the presentations.
