COUNTY TO DECREASE SANIBEL CAUSEWAY DISCOUNT TOLLS NOV. 1

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 10, 2005) - The Board of Lee County Commissioners on Tuesday (Aug. 9) approved reducing the discount prepaid toll on the Sanibel Causeway from $3 to $2 starting November 1.

The Board also reduced the discount tolls for eight other prepaid and unlimited toll options for the Causeway.  The new toll rates include a provision that requires all unlimited account holders establish a minimum $15 prepaid account.

The regular cash tolls ($6 for two axle vehicles) will remain the same until 2012; see chart below:

The reduction in discount tolls is possible because of the settlement of the City of Sanibel's lawsuit against the county and the ability of the county to obtain permanent financing for the $127 million project in June at favorable rates.
