Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Donates $30,600 Support Babcock Ranch
Jun 29, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contacts: SANIBEL-CAPTIVA CONSERVATION FOUNDATION DONATES $30,600 IN SUPPORT OF BABCOCK RANCH ACQUISITION EFFORT FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 29, 2005) - The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of natural resources and wildlife habitat on and around these barrier islands, has donated $30,600 to the Babcock Preservation fund, which is facilitated by the Southwest Florida Community Fund. The $30,600 is a combination of a few different donations given through SCCF to aid the Babcock Preservation Partnership in its effort to acquire, preserve conserve and manage Babcock Ranch and Telegraph Swamp, one of Southwest Florida's most outstanding areas of natural resources and wildlife habitat. The SCCF has acquired and preserved environmentally sensitive land on and around Sanibel and Captiva. This land includes critical wildlife habitats, rare and unique subtropical plant communities, tidal wetlands, and freshwater wetlands along the Sanibel River. Without protection, many of these areas would have been lost to residential and commercial development, either directly or by fragmentation of habitat. The Babcock Preservation Partnership is nearing one year in its efforts to raise funds for the full acquisition of Babcock Ranch, which includes Telegraph Swamp in its 91,361 acres in Lee and Charlotte Counties.
