EMS Receives Excellent Rating After Inspection

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 21, 2005) - An inspection Friday of Lee County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by the State Bureau of EMS resulted in an overall "excellent" rating of the Lee agency. The inspection focused on a review of administrative service records, employee certification files, departmental policies and procedures, ambulance/aircraft inspections, medical equipment, minimum stocking levels and compliance with State Statutes & Florida Administrative Codes. The inspector noted no deficiencies and Lee County EMS received an exceptional rating. The written remarks from the inspector's summary form included, "Excellent personnel records, excellent medical direction, excellent QI (Quality Improvement) and Training program. Excellent Management and well trained, professional Paramedics and EMT's. Very well organized services. Your program provides an excellent service to the citizens and visitor in Lee County and the State of Florida. Chief Hansen you should be proud of your excellent staff and service." Lee County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a Florida certified ground and rotor-wing Advanced Life Support Provider. Lee County EMS Paramedics and EMTs work under the direction of Emergency Physicians, and provide care on-scene and during transport to the most appropriate medical facility. Lee County EMS covers more than 1,000 square miles with 29 Advanced Life Support ambulances, two twin-engine helicopters, two ALS non-transport units, and on-call bicycle paramedics. Each EMS ambulance consists minimally of a State-certified Paramedic and EMT. In FY 2004, Lee County EMS was dispatched to more than 65,000 emergency calls and the air ambulance transported more than 600 patients. Lee EMS has 261 employees and an operating budget of $31.5 million. |
