Public Safety's Lepley Receives Top County Employee Award
Mar 1, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Pete Winton, Lee County Administration PUBLIC SAFETY'S LEPLEY RECEIVES TOP COUNTY EMPLOYEE AWARD FORT MYERS, FL (March 1, 2005) - Dee Dee Lepley - an administrative support supervisor for Lee County's Division of Public Safety who went above and beyond the call of duty during the Hurricane Charley recovery - is the annual recipient of Lee County Government's top employee award. At its regular meeting today, the Board of Lee County Commissioners announced the selection of Lepley - who has been with the county for more than 19 years - as the recipient of the "Candy Pittro Memorial" Award for 2004. The award was established as a tribute to Pittro, who passed away in 1987 after a long struggle with leukemia. Her positive outlook on life was an inspiration to others and the award honors those who display the same qualities. The award is given annually for "inspiration and positive attitude in the face of adversity." Lepley's nomination from co-worker Linda Van Cleve described her as follows: "Dee Dee proved her ability to be dependable under pressure and supporting the organization during a difficult time this year. She provided coverage and leadership during the hurricane season non-stop, working over 100 hours overtime. She was a valuable resource and showed the department her dedication. She was able to plan and arrange coverage that was needed around the clock. She would come in early and sometimes be the last person to leave. She was one step ahead when she saw there was more to be done and showed what a team leader could do. She was quick to respond to the needs of people and management. She showed compassion, leadership, and "whatever it takes" attitude toward any job to get things done." Lepley also sponsors two organizations outside of work that help children - Metro Ministries and Hope for Haiti. "People around her see her positive attitude and enthusiasm toward life," Van Cleve wrote. Candy Pittro's son James Pittro, who now works for Lee County Parks & Recreation, was on hand to present the award. Other nominees this year were: John Ebling (Veterans Services), Denise Parker (Community Development), Randy Harris (Construction & Design), Ernie Eberhard (EMS), Robin Jewett (Human Services), Maria Raiche (Animal Services), Hildegard Adinolfo (Library System), Phyllis Collins (Public Safety), and Dave Miller (Zoning). |
