Feb 18, 2005 Media contact: Heather O'Connell, (239) 461-2924 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUMBLEBOOKS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE @ YOUR LIBRARY FORT MYERS, Fla., February 18, 2005- Storytime just became more fun with talking, animated e-books available online from the Lee County Library System. Go to the Lee County Library System website www.lee-county.com/library and click on TumbleBooks for entertaining, eye-catching e-books for younger children (up to 3rd grade). Lee County Library System Technical Services Manager, Deb Czarnik, says TumbleBooks have terrific appeal for preschoolers. "The animated pictures catch their eyes and capture their attention more so than regular storytime books. There are currently some 80 titles including storybooks like The Lima Bean Monster and The Paper Bag Princess. There are also life-learning books covering everything from tolerance to sun-block." Children can enjoy the stories at their own pace or at an automatic setting. The running time for the automatic setting is listed in the description of the book, along with the book's reading level. It's easy to find other stories- a link leads readers to other e-books at the same reading level. Some titles like Jack and the Beanstalk feature a "Word Helper" setting that highlights and sounds-out featured words. The featured words are on a vocabulary list at the end of the story. TumbleQuizzes at the end of selected stories help reinforce reading comprehension. Czarnick says it's a good tool for parents to evaluate their children's understanding of what they've read. There are also fun activities including TumblePuzzles and TumbleGames. A direct link to the Spanish version of TumbleBooks is featured on the Lee County Library System's Sitios en Espaol page. Some TumbleBooks are available in French, Chinese and Hebrew. Parents can create a "favorites" list so children can quickly go to their favorite stories. |
