Jan 25, 2005 Contact: Pete Winton, Lee County Administration BOARD APPROVES PLANTATION EXTENSION ENGINEER/SETS HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY FUNDING FOR 2006 FORT MYERS, Fla. (January 25, 2005) - The Board of Lee County Commissioners today approved the following items during its regular weekly meeting. They are: Plantation Extension - Approved a contract with T.Y. Lin International for $549,512 to design the extension of Plantation Road from Idlewild Street to Colonial Boulevard. The work will include design, right-of-way, permitting, drainage, signing, pavement marking and signalization, and will take a year to complete. The one-mile extension will be four lanes, cost $7.1 million and is scheduled to be completed in 2007-08. Human Services Funding - Approved up to $3.62 million as the proposed 2005-06 funding allocation for the county's program that funds private human services organizations (called the Partnering for Results Program). This is a 13 percent increase over this year's $3.2 million allocation. The funding is allocated through a Request for Proposals process and recommendations by a citizen Partnering for Results Proposal Review Panel. The panel is responsible for reviewing proposals submitted to Lee County from non-profit human service organizations and submitting funding recommendations to the Board. The Partnering for Results Program is a process that enables the county to receive measurable outcomes by purchasing "units of service" from participating human service agencies. The county purchases services in the areas of: Supportive Housing/Living, Economic Opportunity, Activities for Youth, and/or Basic Assistance. Agencies submit proposals in March and the review panel makes funding recommendations to the Board as part of the county's budget process. Babcock Ranch - Deferred indefinitely any action for the county to acquire Babcock Ranch through a voluntary condemnation process. The state is working on alternative purchase methods but has said its $300 million commitment cannot be through a voluntary condemnation process. The county will continue to dialogue with the state. The county also requested that the state update its appraisals of the property. Other Action - Voted to:
