Collier County Hosts Adoption Event for Lee County Pets

Sep 25, 2008

Lee County Animal Services extends their thanks to Collier County DAS for their help in taking these pets and hosting a special adoption event for them.  This has given us the ability to house the confiscated pets as well as our continuing incoming population.  Both Collier shelters, DAS and the Humane Society Naples, who also took some of our pets, have always been very supportive of our agency and it is truly appreciated.

Collier County Hosts Adoption Event for Lee County Pets

Collier County Domestic Animal Services recently assisted Lee County Animal Services by accepting 13 adoptable dogs on Tuesday, Sept. 23 in an effort to assist Lee County in accommodating dozens of pets involved in an animal abuse investigation.

DAS will host a special adoption event exclusively for these Lee County dogs and the public is invited to attend.  The ImmokaLEE Dog Adoption Event will be held this Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at DAS's Immokalee Shelter located at 402 Sergeant Joe Jones Rd. off Immokalee Road.

On Tuesday, Lee County Animal Services confiscated dozens of animals that authorities believe were abused or neglected.  Lee County then contacted area rescue groups and shelters with a request to accept adoptable pets from their shelter so that Lee County could make room to care for the abused animals.

DAS agreed to assist Lee County and so animals being held in the Immokalee Shelter were moved to DAS's central location at 7610 Davis Blvd. in order to accommodate the 13 Lee County Animal Services dogs.

"Domestic Animal Services is happy to assist Lee County in its time of need," said DAS Interim Director Amanda Townsend.  "Agencies like ours could find themselves in unforeseen circumstances that dramatically impact their shelter inventory at any time, and we are happy to come to their aid."

The ImmokaLEE Dog Adoption Event will showcase only the Lee County Dogs.

To visit with dogs in advance of the event or to adopt, the public may visit the Immokalee Shelter, 402 Sergeant Joe Jones Rd., Thursday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or may attend the ImmokaLEE Dog Adoption Event on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
