Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials announced today that Lee County residents whose homes were adversely affected by Tropical Storm Fay floodwaters will be eligible for individual assistance.

Representatives of FEMA will go to the shelter at Estero Community Center Wednesday, September 3, 2008, to begin the process of advising residents about available assistance and helping them fill out forms. As of this morning there are 588 people in the shelter.

A meeting is scheduled late this afternoon to discuss details of the available federal assistance and establishment of a Disaster Recovery Center.
With three tropical systems active in the Atlantic, Emergency Management officials are awaiting more certainty in the weather forecast to determine when or if the shelter can close and residents can be moved to temporary housing.
