Aug 23, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Paul Filla, Public Information Officer, 239-533-3710

The National Weather Service has forecast one (1) to two (2) inches additional inches of rain today.  Please follow these safety recommendations, as Tropical Storm Fay continues to cause some road flooding and other hazards in Lee County.

•          The Lee Civic Center is the only shelter open at this time.  This is NOT a pet friendly shelter.

•          9-1-1 is for emergency calls only, not information.  For information or questions, call 2-1-1.

•          All drivers should exercise caution on wet roads.  Do not drive through water if you can not see the road surface through the water.  Turn around, don't drown.

•          If you must drive on unimproved roads, limit the number of trips and slow your speed as much as practical to limit damage to the road surface.   Avoid high speed turns and spinning tires, as these maneuvers cause substantial damage to the road surface.

•          Sand bags and sand are available at local Fire Departments for emergency use.

•          If you evacuate your home, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS BEHIND!  Pet friendly hotels can be found on-line at http://www.petswelcome.com/ or by contacting individual hotels and motels.

•          Dangerous rip currents and one (1) to two (2) feet of high tide/storm surge are also forecast tonight and Saturday night.
