Lee County Animal Services Seeks Information Related to Cruelty Case

Fort Myers, Florida, 8/20/2008– On the evening of August 11, 2008 a Lee County Animal Services Officer responded to an anonymous call regarding a dog at 12631 Third St. in Fort Myers.  The caller stated that a dog, bound by duct tape around its muzzle and legs, was seen at the Third Street address.

Upon his arrival the officer found the dog with the caller who had jumped the fence and removed the duct tape.  Adhesive still remained on the muzzle and the front and rear legs of the canine.  Significant ligature marks, as well as puss around the muzzle, was apparent.  The dog, a neutered male, tri-colored Beagle, was transported to Lee County Animal Services (LCAS) for treatment and care.

The Beagle was scanned for a microchip ID which was found.  The Animal Services Officer contacted the registered owner of the microchip ID who reported that she had given away the dog.  Upon further investigation it was discovered that the new owner had recently passed away. LCAS would like to adopt three year old Dakota to a loving home as soon as possible.

LCAS is conducting an investigation in the hopes of finding anyone that may have seen or heard of this incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477 (1-800-780-TIPS).  Callers may remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this act.
