Jan 6, 2005 Contact: County Commission, District #1 Office COMMISSIONER JANES APPOINTED TO NACO HOMELAND SECURITY TASK FORCE FORT MYERS, Fla. (January 6, 2005) - Lee County Commissioner Bob Janes has been appointed to the National Association of Counties' (NACo) Homeland Security Task Force. The appointment was announced by NACo President Angelo Kyle. The Task Force was established in 2001 to provide a direct link between counties and federal agencies - especially the Office of Homeland Security - working to secure the nation's communities. Janes also is chairman of the National Association of Counties' Health Steering Committee. NACo is the only national organization representing county governments in the United States. Its goals are to improve county government, act as a liaison with other levels of government, present the county position on national issues and advance public understanding of the role of counties. In addition, Commissioner Janes has received his "Certified County Commissioner" designation by successfully completing the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Commissioner Voluntary Certification Program. The program is designed to provide county commissioners with an overview of the many facets of county government, as well as help them better understand and implement their duties and responsibilities as a county commissioner. The 30-hour program generally takes 18-to-24 months to complete. Commissioner Janes was elected to the Board of Lee County Commissioners in 2000 and 2004 and served as chairman in 2002. He represents District 1, which includes Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island, Boca Grande and portions of Cape Coral. |
