Lee County Green Team Committee
The UF/IFAS, SustainabLEE Program has launched the "Lee County Green Team"- a committee of nine members that will serve as advisors to the Program' coordinator. The main objective of this team is to identify and help implement green, sustainable living practices and programs for the citizens of Lee County.
Some key areas of focus will be:
To promote and strengthen sustainable development in all sectors through public awareness campaigns, seminars, workshops, and participation in local events.
To accelerate sustainable energy usage by encouraging the development and practice of local renewable energy technologies such as solar and biofuels.
To recommend ways to combine energy conservation, energy efficiency and onsite recycling to help reduce homeowners' and businesses' carbon footprint.
To promote and implement energy efficient programs and practices for new or pre-existing buildings and in neighborhoods.
To aid County Commissioners in implementing new sustainability policies.
To recommend ways to combine energy conservation, energy efficiency and onsite renewables to help reduce homeowners and businesses carbon footprint.
To encourage Lee County government to take the lead and set examples to inspire citizens to become better stewards of the environment.
The 9-member Green Team is comprised of the following:
Dell Jones - Over 30 years in solar energy development locally, nationally and internationally Carol Newcomb-Jones – More than 30 years in the sustainable development field as an environmental educator and FGCU adjunct professor. Currently working as Director – Environmental Affairs for Kitson & Partners. Earl F. Keaton - Engineer, Former director of Florida House and in-depth knowledge in biodiesel, his passion. Dana Foglesong – Secretary of the Environmental and Peace Education Center – EPEC-. Cindy Highsmith – Vice-president of the Environmental and Peace Education Center – EPEC-. Nancy Gecaj - UF/IFAS Sustainability Program Volunteer, passionate Gardener and local Artist. Felipe Hernandez - Student, Political Science ( Major) Roy Beckford - UF/IFAS Extension, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent Martha Avila - UF/IFAS Extension, Sustainability Program Coordinator
