2008 USA Swimming Open Water Festival
May 14, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Gregg Cross, Swim Florida 2008 USA Swimming Open Water Festival Lee County, Florida – Lee County will once again host the 2008 USA Swimming Open Water Festival from May 30 through June 2. This year's event will feature two USA Swimming Open Water National Championship events as the world prepares to see the sport of open water swimming as an Olympic event at the Beijing Summer Olympic Games. The 2008 Festival will feature a myriad of additional open water races and activities that have been scheduled throughout the weekend. All races and activities will take place at Lynn Hall Park on Fort Myers Beach. The USA Swimming Open Water 5K National Championships will take place on Friday, May 30 at 1:00 PM, where future Olympic hopefuls will get their first taste of open water swimming. The USA Swimming Open Water 25K National Championships will take place on Tuesday, June 3 at 8:00 AM. Other featured events at the festival will include Swim Florida's 6th Annual "1 Mile Open Water Sunset Dash for Cash", which will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded to the top swimmers in the Pro and Open Divisions. In addition to the Sunset Dash for Cash, Swim Florida will host the Sunset Aquathon. This race will feature a 1 mile beach run, a 400 yard Gulf swim and a 1 mile beach run. The Sunset Aquathon will be held Friday, May 30 at 7:00 PM. The 2008 USA Swimming Open Water Festival is hosted by Swim Florida and Lee County Parks & Recreation.
