CRUELTY CASE DOGS IN NEED OF NEW HOMES:

Lee County Animal Services Takes Custody of 37 Neglected Dogs

Fort Myers, Florida, May 5, 2008-Lee County Animal Services has been given custody of 37 dogs confiscated from their owners for severe neglect three weeks ago.  The dogs' owners made the decision to surrendered legal custody of the dogs to Animal Services on May 1st.  The dogs were found to be living in extremely unsanitary conditions, exposed to toxic air quality levels, and suffering from a lack of medical care.  The case has been turned over to the State Attorney's Office for review for possible criminal charges.

New homes for the dogs deemed healthy enough for adoption by Animal Services' veterinarian are needed as soon as possible.  The dogs include a variety of breeds, ages, and sizes.  Photos are available online at www.LeeLostPets.com.

A great deal of care has been expended by Animal Services' staff and volunteers to restore the pets' health and confidence.  The financial cost of their rescue and rehabilitation exceeds $30,000.  Animal Services understands that more time and care will be required for these pets and asks only that adopters make any donation in the amount of their choice to the Lee County Animal Care Trust Fund in lieu of the normal adoption fee.  The Trust Fund depends on donations to fulfill its mission of helping the homeless and abused pets in Lee County.  All donations are tax deductible.

All adoptions include:

         Spay/neutered surgery

         Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella vaccines

         Worming

         Flea/tick treatment

         Heartworm test

         10-day health guarantee

         Lee County license

         Microchip ID

         Collar

         Training DVD

In addition to receiving more than $400 worth of veterinary and other services, adopters will be saving a life.

Those persons who cannot adopt but would like to help may also make a donation to Animal Care Trust Fund, c/o Lee County Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, FL  33912.  The Fund also assists homeless and abused pets, provides for low-cost spay/neuter programs, and aids disadvantage pet owners.  For more information about pets for adoption or the Animal Care Trust Fund visit www.LeeLostPets.com or call (239) 533-7387 (LEE-PETS).
