Lee County Hires New Animal Services Director

FORT MYERS, FL (March 19, 2008) – Lee County has a new director for its Animal Services Department.  Donna Ward, formerly the Executive Director of the York County, Pennsylvania SPCA since 1998, has assumed the position vacated in November 2007.

A plus for Lee County will be the extensive experience Ward brings to this position.  York County SPCA is a private, non-profit, where she was also a Board Member for seven years before becoming Executive Director.  Ward has dealt with sheltering over 4,000 animals per year and overseeing animal control contracts with 72 municipalities.  During her tenure she lead the organization's fundraising efforts and community programs for education, spay/neuter, adoptions, and volunteers as well as reducing the agency's euthanasia rate.

Ward's immediate goal when hired by the York County SPCA was to gear the organization for a three-year capital campaign and to balance the shelter's budget.  Her efforts culminated in the opening of a new 17,000 sq. ft. facility in June 2006.  During this time she also improved the agency's public image, customer service, and lowered the employee turnover rate.

The County and Animal Services staff welcome Donna Ward and look forward to the innovative ideas that she can bring to the agency in the areas of fundraising, spay/neuter initiatives, sheltering, and fostering programs that will increase adoptions and lower euthanasia.

Lost pets and pets for adoption may be viewed online at www.leelostpets.com.  The shelter is open for adoptions and claiming lost pets from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday; 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday; and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Saturday.  For more information call 239-533-7387 (LEE-PETS).
