POOL SCHOOL OPEN WITH JOBS AVAILABLE
March 18, 2008 – Pool School, the largest simultaneous offering of lifeguard and swimming instructor certification classes all year, is now accepting applicants. Training classes will be offered in the American Red Cross and Starfish Aquatics water safety programs.
"Learning to properly guard a pool or teach someone how to swim is one of the most rewarding things a person can do," said Diane Holm, Chair of the South West Florida Drowning Prevention Committee and Public Information Officer for Lee County Public Safety. "I'd like to see everyone go through a life guarding class."
A record nine sites will offer training, including the Florida Gulf Coast University Pool, North Fort Myers Community Pool, San Carlos Community Pool, Cape Coral Yacht Club Pool, City of Fort Myers Golfview Pool, Phillips Park Community Pool, Sanibel Pool and Riverdale High School Pool. This is the fourth year the Drowning Prevention Committee has packaged water safety training for the public at pools in Lee County.
Most facilities are looking for employees.
"If you're job hunting, it's a great opportunity to pin one down in a fun cool spot," added Holm. "You'll gain life saving skills you can use forever, even if you choose not to get paid to use them."
There are skills tests required for both types of classes, and you must be pre-registered to attend. Prices range from $45 to $225, depending on the class, membership and location. A complete listing of classes is below.
