P R E S S R E L E A S E Friday, August 26, 2005 "New Central District Grand Opening" A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned to mark the dedication of the newest District Office of the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Central District, also known as District 5, will officially open doors to the public at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2005. Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott extended an open invitation to the citizens and business representatives in the area, "I hope members of the public will join us Monday to become familiar with this full-service office and meet the professional and enthusiastic staff assigned to the District." The Sheriff recognized the need for the District which serves the U.S. 41 corridor from Ben C. Pratt Six-Mile Cypress Parkway north to the Caloosahatchee River, west to Summerlin Road and east to Interstate 75. Communities located within the district include Pine Manor, Page Park, Dunbar and Tice. "In analysis of calls for service it's clear a change was necessary," Sheriff Scott said, "the added district will help us serve all of Lee County more efficiently." The Central District Commander is 48 year old Captain Mike Johnston of Cape Coral, a 25 year veteran with the Lee County Sheriff's Office. The District Office will be staffed with patrol deputies, criminal investigation detectives and civilian support staff. Initially, a total of 48 members of the Sheriff's Office will be working out of the Central District offices.
