Governor Bush appoints local retired LPGA star to Florida Sports Foundation Board of Directors

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 19, 2005) - Governor Jeb Bush has announced the appointment of Terry-Jo Myers to the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF) Board of Directors.  She will serve in such capacity through August 30, 2008.  Myers replaces William H. Hammond, Lee County Deputy County Manager, who served on the FSF Board for eight years, the last two of which he served as President.

Terry-Jo Myers played on the LPGA tour for 18 years, where she received numerous awards and honors, including the 1998 Ben Hogan Award, Golf Digest 1997 Comeback Player of the Year Award, the LPGA Heather Farr Award and the Philadelphia Sportswriters Award.

Following her professional golf career, Myers spent time in Washington D.C. on behalf of the Interstitial Cystitus Association, where she worked with the House and Senate to secure research funds and grants.

Locally, Myers founded the Sam Sirianni Athletic Student Scholarship Fund.  The organization offers annual scholarships to a male and female student-athlete from each Lee County public high school.

Most recently, Myers has created the Terry-Jo Myers Youth Golf Foundation, which will serve as the platform to bring the First Tee program to Lee County.  The mission of First Tee is to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

The Florida Sports Foundation is the official sports promotion and development organization for the State of Florida.  The FSF is charged with the promotion and development of professional, amateur, recreational sports and physical fitness opportunities that produce a thriving Florida sports industry and environment.
