Lee County Library System says there's something for everyone; encourages residents to support their library.

FORT MYERS, FL (April 1, 2005) It's National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries to their communities.

"Books. Magazines. Videos. CDs. DVDs. Internet access. The Lee County Library System has something for everyone," says Heather O'Connell, Community Relations Coordinator.

As part of this annual event, the Lee County Library System is featuring a collection of art, inspired by libraries.  Reading Roundup: Images about Libraries and Books is a collection by artist-librarian R.A. Zuckerman.  The collection is on display this month at the Cape Coral - Lee County Public Library Art Gallery.  At the end of the month, each print will be distributed to one of the locations in the Lee County Library System.  Each library will display a print for one month. Every month, each location in the Lee County Library System will have a different print on display.  By the next National Library Week, the entire collection will have been shown at each location.

Reading Roundup is currently displayed alongside an intricate library miniature that depicts the wide collection, creative programs and innovative services available @ your library.  Patrons are invited to come view the exhibit and see what's new @ your library.  Visitors to the Lee County Library System website (www.lee-county.com/library) are also invited to celebrate National Library Week by sending a free e-card, courtesy of American Greetings, at National Library Week Free E-Card.

National Library Week 2005 marks the fifth year of The Campaign for America's Libraries, a multi-year public education campaign sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century.  More than 20,000 libraries in all 50 states are being reached by @ your library, The Campaign for America's Libraries.

"National Library Week is not only a great time to see what's new @ your library but also a time to support your library as a volunteer or Friend of the Library," adds O'Connell.  Each library in the Lee County Library System has a Friends group, which supports the library through advocacy and activities such as book sales and special events.

For more information on activities and programs @ your library or about joining your library's Friends group, visit the Lee County Library System location nearest you, call (239) 479-INFO, or visit the Lee County Library System website at www.lee-county.com/library.
