BOARD APPROVES MATLACHA PARK EXPANSION/NEW CIVIC CENTER ROOF

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 19, 2005) - The Board of Lee County Commissioners today approved the following items during its regular weekly meeting.  All decisions were unanimous.  They are:

Matlacha Park - Purchased a 0.17-acre parcel located on the north side of Matlacha Community Park for $260,000 for the purpose of expanding the park and making its boundaries more contiguous.  The tract is one of three parcels being purchased for expansion purposes.

Civic Center Roof - Approved Gary Wilkes Inc. as the construction manager for the Lee County Civic Center Re-Roofing for a guaranteed maximum price of $765,510.  The project should take six months to complete.  The new roof was approved in this year's county budget.  The Southwest Florida & Lee County Fair Association has managed and operated the 100-acre Lee Civic Center Complex since 1996 and in 2000 extended that agreement through 2020.

Parking Lot - Approved the purchase of a 6,950-square-foot parcel at 1835 Royal Palm Avenue (near Constitutional Complex and Human Services Building) for additional parking.  Cost: $125,000.

Health Department - Approved sending a letter to the Southwest Florida Legislative Delegation requesting $3.775 million for the renovation and expansion of the Lee County Health Department clinic at Pondella Road in North Fort Myers.

Beach Parking - Directed staff to work with the Town of Fort Myers Beach and City of Sanibel on parking garage options near the Summerlin/San Carlos Boulevard area for a permanent Park & Ride program.
