Roadway Work Begins on Sanibel Causeway Islands Drivers Are Advised To Stay Alert and Use Caution

Fort Myers, FL, December 23, 2005 Work on the Causeway Island roadways will begin this week.  Initially, on Dec. 28, 2005, construction work will begin on the roadway of Causeway Island "B" (middle island).  One of the initial operations will be to grind out the old striping for the center lane adjacent to the Weigh Station on Island "B".  New striping will be added and the center turn lane will be removed for a period of 6 to 8 weeks.  The roadway grinding and striping operation will begin at approximately 6 p.m.  There will be alternating lane closures. Provisions will be made to allow trucks that need to be weighed coming off island to do so.  The work will be completed prior to early morning rush hour.

Work will continue on the roadways at each end of the Causeway Islands to tie the existing roadway to the new bridges.  Expect delays and intermittent lane closures. Drivers are advised to stay alert and use caution.
