Boaters Be Aware Warning to boaters Construction barges will be in the main channel of the Sanibel drawbridge

Fort Myers, FL, (December 14, 2005) Starting Friday, December 16, 2005 for approximately one month, construction barges will encroach in the main channel of the Sanibel drawbridge by approximately 50 feet in support of the construction of the new bridge.  There will be approximately 40 feet of the channel open for boats to use.  Intermittent closures of the channel will be necessary during this period for boater safety while overhead operations occur.

Boaters should also be aware that due to the construction, barges are working alongside Bridge A on either side of the main channel and boaters will be unable to pass underneath the bridge where these barges are located.  Boaters are encouraged to use the main channel for their safety.

Your patience is appreciated during this phase of construction.

There is a federally declared no-wake zone 100 feet on each side of the drawbridge.

Anyone in violation of breaking the no-wake rule could be subject to tickets and fines of up to $31,500

Two-way traffic is prohibited in the main navigable channel.

You MUST slow your speed down and abide by the no-wake zone signs at the site of this construction.
