Lee County Animal Services Receives Top Award

St. Pete Beach, Florida, 11/19/05-Lee County Animal Services (LCAS) was named Outstanding Animal Control Agency in the State of Florida for 2005 by the Florida Animal Control Association (FACA) at its annual conference. LCAS was recognized for innovation, progressive & proactive work in the industry, and positive results including a reduction in euthanasia as a percentage of intake and a major increase in adoptions. Three other best in state awards were also received Maria Raiche, Caretaker of the Year; Pamela Westberry, Office Worker of the Year and Samantha Syoen (President of the Lee County Animal Care Trust Fund), Humanitarian of the Year. Those awards represent two-third of all awards presented statewide and 4 out of five categories where LCAS was nominated. In addition to the awards, Lee County Animal Services' Director Scott Trebatoski was unanimously selected to serve as the Vice President of the Florida Animal Control Association for 2006 by other FACA Directors.

In the past three years, Lee County Animal Services has won eight best in state awards including at least one winner in every category available for awards:  Outstanding Agency of the Year, Animal Control Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Humane Educator of the Year, Caretaker of the Year, Office Worker of the Year, and Humanitarian of the Year (received twice). Lee County Animal Services is the only agency in the state to have won every category in the in the past three years.

FACA is the statewide professional organization established to further animal care and control throughout Florida. It represents 212 professional animal control agencies throughout Florida.
