Nov 1, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ria Brown 5th Annual Fall Pet Fest Breaks Adoption and Fundraising Records Fort Myers, Florida, (11/1/05) - The 5th Annual Fall Pet Fest hosted by Lee County Animal Services was held October 15, 2005 at the agency's shelter in Fort Myers. This year's event, sponsored by KB Home, exceeded previous records for adoptions and for funds raised in a single day. Some of the programs the Animal Care Trust provides for are spay/neuter programs for low income and disadvantaged pet owners, assistance in the care and placement of abused and neglected animals, permanent pet microchip identification programs, disaster preparedness for animals, early-age spay/neuter education, animal adoptions, and emergency veterinary medical assistance for disadvantaged pet owners. Funds to support these needs have been especially timely in recent months. The goal of the event each year is to increase awareness for the need to find homes for the area's orphaned pets and to educate pet owners on proper pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and neutering This year owners were treated to a pet fashion show and entered their pets in six contests judged by local celebrities. Other highlights included games, agility, flyball, and dog training demos. A large vendor marketplace, raffle, silent auction, food, and music rounded out a day of fun. Many owners also chose to have their pets and families portraits taken or purchased nationally registered microchip pet IDs and vaccinations.
