Countdown - New Solid Waste Franchise Hauling Contract

FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 30, 2005)   October 1st, 2005 marks the day when the new franchise area garbage contracts for unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs, and the Town of Fort Myers Beach go into effect.

Your collection days could have changed.  You should have received one or more flyers at home recently notifying you of any collection day changes or new franchise haulers.  Remember, haulers may be learning new routes.  If you experience problems, please call your hauler or the county's Solid Waste Division at the phone numbers below.

Since June, the four franchised haulers have worked to gear up for the new contract in an effort to meet the County's transition deadlines.  The focus was to hire sufficient personnel, have rolling stock ordered and on site, dumpsters and roll off containers available, and the commercial and residential routing complete for approval by the Solid Waste Division.

Businesses have been contacted by sales staff regarding set up of services, delivery of dumpsters and containers, and service agreements were solicited. Residents have received mailings from their respective hauler advising of the collection days.

Service for the respective franchise area is provided for by the following company (see corresponding map):

Area 1   -  Onyx Waste Services,  Phone: 334-1224

Area 2  -  Onyx Waste Services, Phone:  334-1224

Area 3  -  Waste Services Inc.,  Phone:  332-8500

Area 4  -  Waste Management Inc., Phone:  334-4115

Area 5  -  Waste Pro of Florida, Inc., Phone:  337-0800

While each contract change holds a certain level of anticipation for all parties involved, the Solid Waste Division is confident that each of the haulers is prepared and ready to take on the challenges of this contract.

Residents and businesses faced with problems related to their garbage collection service are encouraged to call the franchise hauler or the Solid Waste Division at 338-3302.
