Lee County Animal Services Accepting Adoption Application for Hurricane Katrina Pets

Fort Myers, Florida, 9/28/05-Lee County Animal Services is now accepting adoption applications for seven dogs rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  The dogs were brought back to Lee County by Animal Services staff returning from the rescue effort.

Anyone interested in adopting one of the dogs may submit an application, letter of interest, and a recommendation from their veterinarian.  Animal Services is requesting the letters, along with the adoption application, to ensure that the pets are adopted by individuals who understand the special needs of animals left homeless as a result of a disaster.

More information and photos of the pets available from Hurricane Katrina plus other pets for adoption and lost pets may be viewed on Animal Services web site, http://leelostpets.com.  The shelter may be contacted for additional information at (239) 432-2083.

Lee County Animal Services provides animal control services throughout Lee County and operates an animal shelter to house stray and abandoned domestic animals. It also administers low-cost spay/neuter programs, animal cruelty investigation, education, rabies control, and bite case management programs. The shelter is located off Six Mile Cypress Parkway next to the Lee County Sheriff's Dept.
