KB Home Sponsors 5th Annual Fall Pet Fest!
Lee County Animal Services Hosts the Benefit for Homeless Pets

Fort Myers, Florida (9/12/05)-KB Home is sponsoring the 5th Annual Fall Pet Fest hosted by Lee County Animal Services on October 15, 2005 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The event will benefit the Lee County Animal Care Trust Fund and the community's homeless pets!  The Fest will be held at Lee County Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers.

The goal of the event is to increase awareness for the need to find homes for the area's orphaned pets and to educate pet owners on proper pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and neutering.   In the process, a fun day of activities will be provided.

In 2004 over 30,000 pets ended up in local shelters in Lee, Collier, and Hendry Counties.  Due to pet overpopulation, more than 15,000 of these animals were euthanized.  Lee County Animal Services would like to see every available home filled by a shelter animal.  Many wonderful pets in a variety of breeds, colors, and sizes from shelters and other rescue organizations in the tri-county area will be available for adoption.

In addition, pet owners can bring their own pets out for a day of fun and activities.  Local celebrities will judge pet contests and award prizes to the winners.  Contests include "Best Costume" and "Most Original Costume," "Mr. & Miss Ameri-Mutt," "Ameri-Canine Idol," Famous Look-A-Like," and "Most Exotic or Unusual."  Dogs and their owners can also play the "Snoopy Bowl," or "Doggies in the Outfield" games!  Other highlights include a pet fashion show, flyball, agility, dog training, and K-9 demonstrations.  Expert advice will be available from veterinarians, dog trainers, pet sitters, groomers, and more.  Attendees can visit many booths at the Fest's Vendor Marketplace showcasing the latest in pet products and services or even have their pet's picture taken.  Nationally registered Microchip Pet IDs will be available for only $15.00.   Rabies vaccinations and county licenses may also be purchased onsite.
