FORT MYERS, FL (July 7, 2005)  - On July 11, 2005, Toll Facilities will begin charging LeeWay customers the cash toll at the toll plaza when transponders malfunction. It is important customers maintain their transponders and transponder batteries in good working order to facilitate a smooth trip through the toll plazas.

Previously, customers with malfunctioning transponders were not aware that their transponder battery was low and about to fail.  In early 2005 this changed. LeeWay now captures low battery information from each transponder.

The LeeWay Service Center notifies customers that their transponders are operating on a low battery and may be experiencing intermittent problems. This notification includes both transponders that have replaceable batteries and transponders that have NON-replaceable batteries.   Those customers with old style NON- replaceable battery transponders need to purchase a replacement transponder costing $26.50.   Customers with the newer style replaceable battery transponders need to replace the battery.

To help customers through this process, the LeeWay Service Center offers replacement batteries and replacement battery kits at NO CHARGE.  The LeeWay Service Center staff can replace the battery and retest a customer's transponder.

The Service Center's hours of operation are:

Monday  8:00 AM  6:00 PM   (Extended lobby hours of 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM)

Tuesday  Friday  8:30 AM  5:30 PM

The LeeWay Service Center will also be open two Saturdays - July 16th and July 23rd from 9:00am to Noon for walk in customers.
