Lee County Hires New Equal Opportunity Manager

He has an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Connecticut and law degree from Quinnipiac College School of Law. Valenti replaces Kami Corbett who left the county last year to become assistant city attorney in Bonita Springs and now works in the private sector. The Lee County Office of Equal Opportunity handles employment and housing discrimination complaints at the county level. It is the local equivalent to Florida's Commission on Human Relations and the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The office: Investigates housing complaints on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Investigates employment complaints on behalf of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Strives to stop discrimination before it starts by increasing awareness in the community about discrimination laws. Informs consumers and businesses of the steps needed to comply with the discrimination laws. Hosts training conferences and conducts individual workshops for organizations. The office has five employees and a $493,000 annual budget. |
